Auntie Pooh the Storyteller

For fifteen years, Gwen Traylor, better known to thousands of children as "Auntie Pooh" has educated and entertained children through the art of Storytelling. Auntie Pooh captures and sustains the attention of children with stories that are creatively woven to facilitate learning and to assist in building confidence and positive self images. African instruments, music and original songs are used to empower, inspire, and motivate children while assisting in the development of reading, writing, listening, singing and speaking.

Gwen Traylor is also Motivational Speaker, Singer, Song Writer, Poet, Healthy-Steps Therapeutic Certified Fitness Instructor and Certified Basic Awareness Beginning Education Study (BABES) Instructor

Artistic Approach

My artform is Storytelling.
I practice using a variety of techniques and expressions to perform.
The process of my storytelling artform is using poetry, songs, African instruments, stage performance, reading, writing, listening to meet the needs of the audience.

Teaching Artist Approach

My teaching philosophy is that all children can be active and involved on every level by using all of their senses to gain the knoweldge and understanding through the are of storytelling.

Program Management Strategies

When coming into a pre-established setting the prochedures consist of enforcing rules with the help of staff in charge, monitor activies, making sure all materials are in place, all children are seated and ready to experience their greatness. Pre and Post evaluations are given and a six week follow-up.

Program Description

The program content contains my Storytelling artform .
The learners will engage in reading, writing, listening and speaking which will be aligned with The Arizona Arts Standards.
Children will participate in activities according to grade level standards.
The audience will interact through the performance with storytelling, games, sing-a-long, and hands on with African instruments.

Depending on the number of children: Classroom or Auditorium space is sufficient
Storage is needed for students supplies

Educator/Staff Training

Personnel training will include a one, two-hour workshop on the Storytelling Artist Residency/Lesson Plan. Daily instructions and collaborations with Educators and Staff will ensure, and strengthen the Lessons for all students to achieve intended goals.
