DuoWest enriches, entertains, and inspires audiences, while performing with great style and panache so that audiences share our passion for the cello & piano experience. DuoWest engages new listeners with a fresh approach to music familiar and new, cutting edge and on the edge, in locations where a larger ensemble would be both too expensive and inaccessible. Classical music, new works, and creative collaborations. Ian Ginsburg & Sherry Lenich. www.duowest.org

Program Snapshot

Program Snapshot Focus

Performance

Program Description

DuoWest performances and residencies are designed to incorporate cultural, historical, and aesthetic elements into the audience experience. Nearly a dozen focus areas are available and are customized to meet the community needs and demographic.

ARTIFACTS is a unique Southwest experience, where listeners discover how new works of art music are commissioned today and experience a contemporary, personal aesthetic response to artifacts and archaeology of Arizona through performance, composer talks, archaeological information and artifacts observation. MUSIC OF THE AMERICAS is a program that incorporates the breadth of musical styles that are part of the diverse cultures of the Americas. New art music, tangos, new age, jazz, and classical styles stand side by side. ROMANCING THE BOW features timeless classical standards by Romantic composers such as Brahms, Chopin, or Rachmaninoff. VIVA HISPANIA utilizes the dual disciplines of poetry and music of Mexico, Central America, South America and Spain in a program that explores the artistic tone of the works. THE WORLD WARS AND THEIR MUSIC is a discovery of the compositions of composers such as Martinu and Bridge and how their war experiences personally affected their composition.

Listeners are invited to discover and engage in the artistic elements of the music in an informal talk and question/answer session with the artists. In a non-traditional way, the artists welcome listeners into the program. To help guide the listener, but not prejudice them in any way the audience members will hear the artists talk about the lives and artistic output of the composers and music presented, and encourage audience questions and interaction with the artists.
