OperaTunity, an Arizona Opera Ensemble
Our very first audiences were seventh graders, it was sink or swim - and we're still swimming! In opera, people die, boyfriends cheat, women cry, and yet we find a way to sing! Laughter is indeed the best medicine, but it is also a terrific teacher, especially for people who think they hate opera. Our singers lead each group through operatic terminology and traditions, taking them to levels of understanding and even appreciation. With our trunk full of beautiful melodies, and clever shtick we'll make it happen! Our programs are interactive, and improvisational. Call us in-your-face-opera.
Styles: Classical, Opera, Show Tunes, Vocal Ensemble

Title: Community Based
Approval Type Community Based Artistic Discipline Music Program Type Performances, Residencies Populations/Areas of Interest Grades K-6, Grades 7-12, In School, Adults, Older Adults, Persons with disabilities Artistic Approach We are an opera education group and our chief goal is to educate audiences on Opera as an art form. Teaching Artist Approach We strive to perform at the highest level and provide information appropriate the age and context of the performance experience and entice our audiences to enjoy and discover what else lies out there in the operatic world. Program Management Strategies We always meet with the teacher ahead of time and discuss and layout a plan. We have the ahead of time so we can give it to the teacher (s). We usually have our small group in the classroom and each one has a job, whether it is leading the group singing, playing the piano, getting material on campus when needed and choreographer. We always follow up with written evaluations! Program Description We specialize in opera education for all ages. We strive to engage and enlighten the listener with our silly antics and our beautiful voices. Opera is fun! Technical Requirements We always need a piano of somekind, preferably a grand piano if we are doing a community concert. We also need microphones for a large auditorium concert. If we are on a stage we will usually meet with the resident sound and lighting person before our concert. Space Requirements We can easily adapt our performance to any size room be it a small classroom to a large concerts hall. Supply Requirements We always need assistance with the concert set up! We also would love bottled water for our thirsty singers and pianists! Special Considerations We specialize in informances and prefer concert venues for communities. No extra information. References Bernadette Mills West Valley Arts Council 623.935.6384 Fees "Please Contact Artist." Educator/Staff Training We will come into your community and teach about opera. We will present lively presentation prior to our big concerts if you would like. We also can provide lists of books or websites to enhance your opera knowledge. How Arizona State Academic Standards are Addressed We address many of the standards in our school residencies and we gladly address them in any community setting if requested and appropriate to the situation. |
